Permission Breakdown for Zeit365 Registration

Zeit365 is a professional time tracking and project management application that integrates seamlessly with your Microsoft 365 environment to help you track work time, manage projects, and bill customers effectively. Here's why each permission is essential for the app to function properly:

Core Identity & Authentication

  • - openid - Allows you to securely sign in with your Microsoft 365 account
  • - profile - Displays your name and basic profile information in the app interface
  • - offline_access - Keeps you logged in so you don't have to re-authenticate every time you use the app

User Management & Collaboration

  • - User.Read - Reads your basic user profile to personalize your experience
  • - User.ReadBasic.All - Displays colleague names and basic info when you collaborate on projects or assign time entries to team members

Team & Project Organization

  • - Group.Read.All - Critical for Zeit365's core functionality: The app uses Microsoft 365 Groups to organize your customers and projects. When you create a customer in Zeit365, you link it to a Microsoft 365 Group, which:
  • - Determines access control - Only members of the linked group can view that customer's time entries and project data
  • - Provides customer branding - The group's profile picture becomes the customer's logo in Zeit365
  • - Enables seamless collaboration - Your existing team structure in Microsoft 365 automatically applies to Zeit365
  • - GroupMember.Read.All - Identifies who has access to which customer projects based on group membership, ensuring proper access control and privacy

Document & Workspace Integration

  • - Sites.Read.All - Provides direct links to related SharePoint sites, Teams channels, and Microsoft 365 services for each customer group, so you can quickly access:
  • - Customer documents and files
  • - Team conversations and planning tools (Planner, OneNote)
  • - Shared calendars and resources

Why This Builds Trust

Minimal Data Access: Zeit365 only reads the information it needs - it cannot modify your Microsoft 365 data, delete files, or send emails on your behalf
Leverages Existing Structure: Instead of creating a separate user management system, Zeit365 uses your existing Microsoft 365 groups and permissions, reducing security risks
Transparent Purpose: Every permission directly supports Zeit365's core features of time tracking, project management, and customer billing
Enterprise-Grade Security: Zeit365 uses Microsoft's enterprise authentication system, which means your login credentials never leave Microsoft's secure environment
Granular Access Control: Your Microsoft 365 group memberships automatically determine what customer data you can see in Zeit365, maintaining your organization's existing privacy boundaries

Once you confirm, you'll be asked to Login to your microsoft Account. If you do we will create your Zeit365 App Instance and you will be redirected to your Admin Center!

Integration Over Isolation: Our Philosophy for Better Time Tracking

Hi everyone, I’m Adrian, one of the developers behind Zeit365. Today, I’m not here to give you a typical marketing pitch, but to offer an honest look at why we even bothered to build another time tracking application.

Let’s be honest: nobody likes filling out timesheets. As developers, we’ve lived through the daily frustrations. Does any of this sound familiar?

  • The Friday Afternoon Amnesia: It’s 4:45 PM on a Friday. You open your timesheet, and it’s a blank canvas. You stare at it, trying to remember what you did on Tuesday morning. You dig through your calendar, scroll through Teams chats, and check your Git commits, trying to piece together a week that has already become a blur.

  • The “5-Minute Task” Black Hole: You answer a quick client email. You help a colleague with a small bug. Each task takes just a few minutes—too small to justify stopping everything to log it. But by the end of the day, ten of those “small tasks” have eaten up an hour of your time that has vanished into thin air, completely untracked.

  • The Juggling Act: You start the day on Project A, get pulled into an emergency on Project B, and then spend the afternoon in meetings for Project C. How do you accurately split an 8-hour day between them? It often feels like a wild guess.

This isn’t just annoying; it’s a recipe for inaccurate data and a nagging feeling that your timesheet is a work of fiction.

So Why Do We Bother? Because We Have To.

For all its frustrations, time tracking is the non-negotiable bedrock of a healthy service business. It’s not about micromanagement; it’s about survival and growth.

  • For Profitability: You can’t price a project or a retainer correctly if you don’t know how much effort it actually takes. Time tracking is the only way to know if a client or project is profitable.
  • For Invoicing and Client Trust: For agencies and consultants, it’s simple: no timesheet, no invoice. Accurate tracking builds trust and justifies the value you provide.
  • For Resource Planning: Who on the team is overworked? Who has capacity for the next big project? Without solid data, resource allocation is a blind guess that leads to burnout and missed deadlines.

We knew we couldn’t eliminate the need for time tracking. But we were convinced we could eliminate the pain.

The “Aha!” Moment: The Ecosystem Is Already There

Our fundamental realization was simple: Why force users to leave the work environment they’re already in? The hub of modern knowledge work is Microsoft 365. So, we asked ourselves the crucial question:

“What if time tracking wasn’t an external tool, but a native part of this ecosystem?”

This question became our mission and the core philosophy of Zeit365: Integration Over Isolation.

Our Approach: Smart and Fast Entry

We designed Zeit365 to act as your central hub for time management, living inside Microsoft Teams or running as a standalone app. Our primary focus was on making the actual entry process solve the frustrations we all face.

  • No Blank Slates, Just Smart Suggestions: When you open the time entry window with a shortcut, you don’t start from scratch. Zeit365 gives you immediate access to your most recently used projects and entry descriptions. This turns the “Friday Afternoon Amnesia” into a two-click task.
  • Staying in the Flow: The quick operation via shortcuts and its discreet presence in the taskbar means you can capture those “5-minute tasks” the moment they happen without breaking your concentration.
  • End-of-Day Submission in a Single Click: The workday is done, but the time tracking often isn’t. Zeit365 solves this elegantly: all the entries you’ve logged throughout the day are grouped together. Instead of reviewing and submitting each one individually, you can submit all of your day’s entries in a single action.
  • A Single Source of Truth: Naturally, your projects, teams, and users are sourced directly from your M365 environment. No manual setup, no synchronization issues.

We firmly believe that the best way to get accurate data is to make logging it as simple as possible. Features like smart suggestions and bundled submissions aren’t just gimmicks—they are our core promise to give you time back.
